UETR was delighted to attend the Logistics Day on 9 December 2024 in Brussels organized by COCERAL, the voice of European trade in cereals, oilseeds, and other agri-bulk commodities. The event provided an excellent platform for exchanging perspectives on key issues impacting the logistics of the grain trade and the road transport sector.
During the discussions, UETR shared on-the-ground insights into the challenges faced by road transport SMEs, particularly in ensuring smooth and efficient operations within the grain trade supply chain. Topics included the complexities of cross-border logistics, the importance of interoperability in transport systems, and the pressing need to address legislative and practical hurdles.
A key focus was decarbonization. UETR emphasized the need for an enabling policy framework that supports road transport companies in transitioning to sustainable practices without compromising operational efficiency. Creating a supportive environment for adopting greener technologies and practices and relying on adequate infrastructure, affordable energy prices, successfully addressing the shortage of drivers remains a top priority for the industry.
Representatives from rail (European Rail Fright Association) and waterborne (EU Barge Union) transport also joined the exchange of views.
The dialogue highlighted the importance of fostering collaboration and developing practical solutions to tackle logistical challenges while promoting sustainability in intermodal transport in EU grain trade.
